I have worked as a Bookmobile driver/Library assistant at a metropolitan Melbourne Library for 10 years and I have not met one person who fits the profile of any of the characters in this show. Ofcourse I was an 'outsider' and I might have been missing something. If I worked for someone like Frances; I would have handed in my resignation as soon as I found another job.

I wasn't crazy about it, to be honest. There are a few good jokes, but they are overmilked. And I'm a bit depressed at the attitude from some librarians that any publicity is good publicity, you know? Do we really want people to think a racist can get a job as a library manager?
That aside, Frances and the husband are quite hilarious on their own.

My husband fell asleep. I thought it was pretty ordinary, but I'll give it a second chance.

BTW - the transcript from the SL discussion is available at Virtual LibrariesInteract. Here

My wife (a non-librarian) commented on a couple of things.
Firstly, too many men working in that library, what is going on there?

Secondly the wonderful list of rules on the front door (which no one would read) finishing with the name Midleton Interactive Learning Centre, which obviously the council PR people loved, but no one understood that it meant library (hence the A4 paper note with the word library stuck underneath)

Good points I thought,
I however was too busy realising that they got the stereotypes perfectly balanced. No one staff member was everything, but every library preconception (apart from tattooed librarians) got a run in at least one character.

And I recognised people I work with or have worked with in all of the staff of Middleton.
