You seem to be a good person to ask this question of. Do you have any tips for anyone who wants to generate traffic to their blog?

My best advice is some I gleaned from other bloggers - get out there and leave comments on other blogs that are related to yours. Let them know you are out there by contacting them via their blogs. But be sincere - your comments need to show genuine interest in their posts.
